The Norris Police Department consists of deputies that work for the Pickens
County Sheriff's Office. These deputies work for the Town of Norris on their days off from the sheriff's
office.
In February 1988, shortly after Furman Rowland took office as mayor of Norris, it was
decided that the town needed some type of law enforcement on a regular basis. The last time Norris had a full
time police department was in 1985. Due to budget restraints it was decided that deputies from the sheriff's
office would work for Norris on a part time basis. In February 1988, deputies went to work for Norris
and they have continued to work ever since.
